Children's Home
The Children's Home, located in the district of Kailali, has been a safe haven for hundreds of children over the years. Its purpose is to provide a home to children who are at risk of being sold as indentured servants or into prostitution. Many families are so poor that they must choose between selling a child and feeding his/her siblings. Not only do these children have a place to live and food to eat while at the Children's Home, but they are also welcomed into a loving family, nurtured, and given the opportunity to receive an education. Many of the children who have lived here have gone on to receive college degrees, and some have remained in the local community to serve as teachers in our schools.
In 2014, construction on a new building for the Children's Home began. The new building can house up to 40 children and several caretakers. We have worked in partnership with a Nepal-based organization, providing the planning, construction funding, and laying the foundation for self-sustainability.
The finishing touches are still being put on the building, as we have hit many speed bumps in the construction process. Despite the unforeseen circumstances, we know this building represents hope and a future for generations of children to come.
